The world has lost a legend, and here at Invention City, we pause to remember George Foreman not only as a two-time heavyweight champion of the world, but as a heavyweight innovator in his own right. He passed away on Friday night in Houston at the age of 76. Most know him for his thunderous punches and miraculous comeback in the ring, but we remember him just as fondly for redefining what it meant to own your name in the world of invention, branding, and product innovation.

George Foreman understood the power of simplicity and authenticity—principles at the very heart of every great invention. The George Foreman Grill wasn't just a product; it was a phenomenon, transforming kitchens across America with its compact design and healthy cooking promise. But more than that, it showed us that invention isn’t just about the idea—it’s about the person behind it. Foreman didn’t invent the grill, but he was the grill. His warm, approachable persona made millions trust the product, and that trust built an empire. Here at Invention City, we can’t help but dream of what could have been: The George Foreman VertiGrille—the ultimate way to air fry wings with vertical crispiness perfection. If ever a name belonged on our product, it was his.

What made George special to inventors and innovators alike was his ability to believe in second (and third) acts. Whether it was stepping back into the ring at age 45 to reclaim a heavyweight title or turning a countertop appliance into a cultural staple, he showed us that it's never too late to reinvent yourself—or the world around you. He was living proof that persistence, vision, and a touch of good humor can turn punches into patents and setbacks into sales.

We salute you, Big George. You were a titan in the ring, but perhaps an even greater force in the world of ideas and imagination. While you may no longer be with us, your name—and your legacy—will continue sizzling in our hearts. Rest in peace, champ. The grill is hot, the wings are crispy, and the dream lives on.
