Rotomolding

Rotomolding, short for rotational molding, is a manufacturing process used to create hollow plastic products—especially large and simple items like storage tanks, kayaks, or playground equipment. The process begins by attaching hollow molds, typically shaped like boxes, spheres, or other basic forms, to a large rotating arm or plate. These molds are designed with a hollow cavity and outer walls that define the shape of the final product. A measured amount of plastic powder is poured into each open mold, which is then securely closed. The entire assembly is placed inside a large oven, where it is heated while simultaneously rotating on multiple axes. This rotation causes the melted plastic to evenly coat the inner surfaces of the mold, forming a consistent wall thickness throughout the product. Once the plastic has fully melted and adhered to the mold’s interior, the assembly is cooled and the finished product is removed.
